What’s your spark?

I’m back! Did you miss me? Our holidays were so nice that blogging pretty much became impossible. I have to admit I slacked and I’m sorry for that, but I have lots planned for this year and I’m just SO EXCITED about it all!

Have you watched the new Disney Pixar movie Soul? If you haven’t, now is your chance to turn away. I’m not giving away any big spoilers, but I am about to spill over with how much I loved it.

We watched it the day after Christmas and it gave me so many Inside Out feels. My dragons were all very much into it, too, which always makes for easy movie-watching. If we can find a movie the three, five, and nine-year-old will watch without complaining, we are doing GOOD.

The movie was beautiful and thought-provoking. I’ve seen a few people concerned about the portrayal of before and afterlife, and I was thankful to have the opportunity to talk to our kids more about our beliefs and see what they took from that part of the movie. Honestly, it didn’t phase them. So if that’s a particular concern of yours with the movie, I’d take it with a grain of salt and do what’s best for you!

Anyway. This is not a movie review. It’s an ACTIVITY.

One of the things they talk about in the movie is your SPARK. What gets you excited about life? For Joe, it’s Jazz. For 22… it’s a question mark. And while the movie later points out some things about that “spark”, I thought it was a fun concept to latch on for an idea.

What is your SPARK? What are the big & little things that excite you about life?

After the year of 2020, we could all use some kind of spark, am I right?

So I made this printable and let the dragons go to work.

After a lot of thought (especially with my middle), they all went in different directions which I always love.

My oldest went with his dreams.

My middle went with the here and now. (Bike riding, riding his scooter, sunrise…)

And my youngest went with his heart: his family.

He drew all six of us and wrote “family.”

An easy activity that dives deeper into your kids’ joys, that’s for sure.

Have you watched Soul? I’d love to hear what you thought about it.
