When Moana was released we missed it in theaters. As soon as it came out digitally, we bought it. (And now everyone can enjoy it on Disney +!)
My husband was late coming home from work the day we planned to watch it. Since our dragons were pretty little and getting rather grumpy, we stopped it halfway through for bedtime and promised the rest for the next day.
As soon as the littles were asleep, however, hubby and I finished the movie. We couldn’t help ourselves.
Our Moana day was so much fun. I love our Disney Days that are extremely hands-on, and this was one of them. The prep is minimal and the results keep the kiddos entertained for a very long time.
We started out the day by making the Coconut Muffins. Since these have to go in the oven for 20 minutes or so, plus prep time, they gave us time to do something else instead of stare at the oven in anticipation. These were perfect to go along with the movie, as the coconut is what keeps Moana’s island moving in the beginning of the movie.
While these were baking/cooling, we did our first craft and made Hei Hei. I absolutely loved doing this. Each Hei Hei turned out unique to his crafter, and the dragons really zoned-in on what they were doing.
After they finished making Hei Hei, we made Moana’s Mango Smoothie to pair with the Coconut Muffins and watched the movie! What’s your favorite part of Moana?
After the movie, we sat down again to color, cut, and create our Bowling for Kakamora game. These coconut creatures are a lot of fun in the movie. Have you found the Easter egg that is Baymax in the scene?
Then the dragons bowled, bowled, and bowled some more.
Moana filled our day, which was perfect because we were on day three of rain at that point. If you’re enjoying some sunshine, take the bowling outside and then spend some time doing water play! It always zaps our dragons and makes bedtime so much easier.
